The Yard in Knutsford

So we were invited along to The Yard in Knutsford last week. You can find The Yard on the bottom street in Knutsford, in between Piccolino and Gusto.. As you enter the restaurant you are greeted by lovely staff members and then get taken upstairs to the main restaurant. As soon as you enter The Yard you get a real feel that it is a family ran business and can tell that there is a lot of passion behind the heritage of each dish and each bottle of wine.

Looking at the menu the food is very different from the dishes in Piccolino and Gusto.. Which is great because there is no need for any local competition in the area for The Yard. The dishes are very traditional and make you feel like you are sat in a restaurant in a small town in Italy.

Duck Salad

For our starter we both had the Duck Salad… which we both thought was delicious. I have never had a salad like this before but it was so fresh and tasty, we certainly cleaned the plates with this dish.It was a mix of green salad leaves, fresh crispy duck, balsamic vinegar and poppy seeds.

Screen Shot 2017-03-05 at 11.27.19.png

For our main I had the lobster and crayfish risotto and Ainslee had the Fish Medley and risotto. These portions were huge but again everything tasted really clean and fresh. We are both big fish lovers and yes the scollops were amazing (I had to pinch one of Ainslee’s). You certainly get value for money with the portions.

Then for desert we both had the Italian style knickerbocker glory, which included Vanilla ice-cream, strawberries and honeycomb.. It was very yummy and not too heavy at the end of our meal, so that we didn’t go away feeling stuffed.

Screen Shot 2017-03-05 at 11.33.25.png

The Yard is still a very new restaurant in Knutsford. They only opened their doors in November, so if you haven’t been yet you must certainly give it a try. whether its to try out their lunch menu or go in for a delicious evening treat.

Screen Shot 2017-03-05 at 11.38.52.png

The restaurant is owned by 2 bothers. One who runs the Knutsford restaurant and the other who owns The Yard in the centre of Chester, which has been open for a while now. Also their Dad who we met at the restaurant also works between restaurants. I love the feeling that a family has built this business and that they all work together. Like I said give them a try and let me know how it went. I always love hearing how your experience was on restaurants I have visited.

The Merlin Alderley Edge

So we were invited along to try out The Merlin in Alderley Edge on Sunday and because Ainslee (my boyfriend) hates roast dinners I couldn’t wait to have one after missing my mums roast dinners from what felt like a life time ago.

The Merlin is on the main road coming into Alderley Edge from the Wilmslow side and has a large carpark so its great for meeting up with the family at the weekends or a great meeting point for weekday lunches or meetings.

On arrival we could see that it was very busy so we thought it must be good if nearly every table was taken up. We ordered our drinks and had a look at the menu… I already knew I wanted a chicken roast dinner so went for a light starter and chose the Chilli King Prawns… Ainslee went for the Rib-eye Steak and had the Scallops for his starter.

Screen Shot 2017-03-03 at 16.59.16.png
~Starter~

The food was all beautifully presented and looked and tasted really fresh. The atmosphere was really cosy and we were sat right by the window so could look out onto the Alderley Edge countryside from our table. It was the perfect place for us to be spending our Sunday afternoon.

After devouring my roast dinner…. apart from Ainslee having to finish off my chicken (because the portions are so generous) I felt so full, but after looking at the desert menu we were both easily persuaded into ordering a desert. Ainslee ordered the Fruit Crumble because he loves a traditional desert and I went for the chocolate bomb… which I’m sure you have already seen on my social media channels… My desert was a chocolate bomb with caramel ice cream in the centre and popping candy around the outside… need I say anymore…

Screen Shot 2017-03-03 at 16.58.34.png
~Desert~

I was also tempted by the selection of mini deserts that you can order.. so that you can try all of the deserts on the menu, but Ainslee was set on his crumble and I couldn’t of taken on all of that haha!

~Sunday Outfit~

We will definitely be returning to The Merlin in Alderley Edge, whether its for meetings or for a Sunday lunch with the family. Because who doesn’t love a traditional english afternoon in a Cheshire Pub!

The Oakwood Alderley Edge by Raymond Blanc.

Screen Shot 2017-02-08 at 11.00.07.png

We were invited to the newly refurbished pub in Alderley Edge that most of you will remember as the old Loche Fyne restaurant, which has now been refurbished to The Oakwood by Raymond Blanc. Before we went we hadn’t looked at the menu nor did I look online to see what the new pub was like. As usual I like to go and get my own view and feel on what the restaurant is truly like. On arrival to the pub the first thing we saw as we were parking up with the amazing outdoor area at the back of the pub, this was all lit beautifully with fairy lights, which we can imagine would make a beautiful setting on a summers night when the nights get a bit warmer. As we were seated at the table we were introduced to our waiter Mike who would be looking after us for the evening. He took us through the menu which we could see was all french food and then he brought over a bottle of Prosecco for us.

Screen Shot 2017-02-08 at 10.57.24.png

Looking at the menu everything looked amazing and I absolutely LOVE french food so I was so excited to see what was in store for us. For my starter I picked the Rainbow trout tartare with a slice of soda bread and my boyfriend ordered the special which was potted crab with soda bread. They both tasted so fresh and because it was soda bread it was a really light starter that didn’t leave us feeling to full for our main course.

Screen Shot 2017-02-08 at 10.57.55.png

Screen Shot 2017-02-08 at 10.57.39.png

After another glass of Prosecco our mains arrived. I ordered the Shetland Isles mussels steamed with saffron mouclade sauce and chips. and my boyfriend ordered one of the french classics Steak Frites: 9 oz rump steak, chips, ‘Café de Paris’ herb & mustard butter. When they both arrived the smell was incredible and we were not disappointed. Yet again we had to taste each others food and my mussels were the largest portion I have ever seen, so much so that Ainslee had to finish them off for me. I went for the saffron sauce as I normally go for the creamy sauce, but this was so good Im not sure if I have been converted. The portions were not only beautifully presented but you also got a lot of food which were though would be amazing value for money.

Also with a side of rocket and parmesan salad.

Screen Shot 2017-02-08 at 10.58.10.png

We were debating whether or not we should have a desert and Mike our waiter manage to sell the ‘Baked Alaska’ to us as we could share it and it sounded delicious…. we were not disappointed. When it arrived at our table it was set on fire and then once the flame went out we could dig in.

Screen Shot 2017-02-08 at 10.59.07.png

We cant wait to go back to The Oakwood already, this restaurant would be perfect for going out for a family meal, catching up with your friends or a cosy Sunday meal. The pub atmosphere really gives it that Cheshire feel and you don’t feel like you need to dress up like you would normally in a swanky restaurant. We thought that Mike our waiter was outstanding, from the moment we entered the restaurant right until the end he looked after us as if were were the only ones in the restaurant and it was really busy as they currently have the 50% off food offer on until 9th Feb… tomorrow!! He knew the menu in so much detail and could give his recommendation on any dish, I can honestly say he was the best waiter I have ever come across.

I hope you all visit The Oakwood and love it as much as we did. For all restaurant bookings check out oakwoodalderleyedge.com or give the restaurant a call on 01625 587 420.

Grafene Manchester

Amongst many restaurants in the heart of Manchester is Grafene, Grafene is not only a fine dining restaurant but also serves brunch, lunch and afternoon tea. This is the first time we have visited the restaurant and we can only say amazing things about it….

Screen Shot 2016-12-27 at 13.04.39.png

From its stunning location on King Street, overlooking the city, to its gorgeous decor to set off any setting. From a big family meal to a romantic date, we couldn’t pick a more beautiful setting. The menu really does vary in price from 2 courses for £18 to a 7 course tasting menu for £59.50, so there’s something to suit everyone. And with their cocktails which are out of this world you really must pay them a visit.

Screen Shot 2016-12-27 at 13.11.52.png

At this time of year we all like to go somewhere special and enjoy company of friends and family, and we think Grafene is perfect for this. not only is the food to die for but the restaurant has a really chilled out approach and gave us a real festive feeling.

Screen Shot 2016-12-27 at 13.17.43.png

We had the 7 course tasting menu so we could tell you about each dish. The menu changes each day so it will vary slightly each time you go…. which we really liked! We both had a ‘Snowball’ cocktail on arrival to get in the festive spirit… This was accompanied by a beautiful selection on bread which was all baked fresh in house.

I think my favourite course was either the Scallops or the Venison. But everything was cooked to perfection and presented as if we were in a Michelin star restaurant. The staff were also so professional and full of knowledge. WE CAN’T WAIT TO GO AGAIN!

900 Degrees launches in Wilmslow

We were so excited to visit 900 degrees when they invited us to try out their menu and see what this place had to offer! We had already heard about 900 degrees as we knew it had been brought over from LA so when we met Alex one of the founders of the restaurant chain he WOW’d us with excitement of how big the brand is in America and now that it is coming over to the UK, Wilmslow is the first one to open up with plans for a Manchester location and many more…

Screen Shot 2016-11-27 at 11.36.41.png

For starters who doesn’t love pizza? Then to be told that it is all healthy fresh produce and made form the lightest dough, so that you don’t feel ‘stuffed’ after your pizza…. no wonder it fits so well into the no carb LA lifestyle. Whilst we are all panicking about how many calories we eat each day and making sure we don’t gain a few pounds….. we love how we can visit 900 degrees and not feel guilty for having a pizza with as many toppings as we like!!

The reason for the restaurant being called 900 degrees is that your pizza is cooked at 900 degrees, so it only takes 90 seconds to cook… meaning you don’t have to wait for your food, its literally as quick as having a sandwich made!!!

We also love how you can choose as many toppings as you like and no that the price will always be £8.99. From a quick bite to eat on your lunch break to dining in the evenings with your family or friends, this place is definitely the coolest new hangout in Cheshire.

Screen Shot 2016-11-27 at 11.03.23.png
£8.99 for all pizzas and choose as many toppings as you like.

They also have a large soda machine where you can pick any flavour you like.. we had the Fanta Raspberry and Sprite Vanilla…. with so many more flavours to choose from, along with the Oreo and Nutella shakes and their mouth drooling deserts.

With a wine and alcohol list that is only otherwise available in Mayfair London, the perfect date night location or to enjoy a catch up with your girls. We cant wait to go again.

RED DOOR MANCHESTER

Red Door Manchester launched back in April after undergoing a massive £350,000 refit… and WOW when we visited this underground cocktail bar in the centre of Manchester last week we did not expect to see this cool ‘New York Chic’ bar….

Screen Shot 2016-09-23 at 18.11.19.png

Leaving Manchester Deansgate and walking into this New York style venue (by Living Ventures), before walking underground the amazing writing in lights really makes you want to stop and take a picture and gives you a feeling of entering a really ‘cool’ bar.

We were invited along to try out all their top cocktails on this occasion and we were certainly looked after by all of their staff. As I can’t drink alcohol myself (only mocktails because I’m pregnant) I thought it would be a good idea to take along a couple of friends who would be able to try all the cocktails out. From cocktails with caramel in that are set on fire, to tangy sugary grapefruit cocktails – They are obviously way above the rest when it comes to cocktails in Manchester and Cheshire.

South Beach Sours and something fruity for me.

As well as all of these cool cocktails Red Door also smashes the older more traditional cocktails such as the Porn Star Martini or Pina Colada. And their cocktail menu is pages long so if you are unsure of which cocktail you will like then you have plenty of choice at RED DOOR.

We found that Manchester was really lacking a cool place to go in Manchester that wasn’t a restaurant where you have to go out to eat or on the other end you have the night clubs in Manchester where you can’t hear your friends talk or can’t find somewhere to sit. RED DOOR is purely just for drinks and surrounding the bar are american style booths where you can sit with your friends, you can have a good conversation with your friends without having to shout over the music.

The perfect place to hang out with friends or start a big night out here and see where the night takes you. A popular place for hen parties also as they are renowned for their HUGE sharing cocktails.

A little bit of lunch…

OK.. so we are officially obsessed with Australasia in Manchester.

They seem to do EVERYTHING from evening meals, high tea and even light lunches.

Screen Shot 2016-09-05 at 08.03.00

After an afternoon of shopping last week we went along for a bite to eat (there was even so much choice for my pregnant self.) My favourite dish was the Vegetable Tempura – which is fried vegetables in the picture above, I could of had 2 of these dishes!!

We love how at Australasia you can either sit downstairs in their beautiful restaurant or you can relax upstairs in their Grand Pacific terrace, we can’t decide where we prefer to sit… But on this particularly raining day in Manchester we just wanted to be cosy inside.

Red Fish Curry and Jasmine Rice + Pork Dumplings

Stir fried mussels with chilli, sweet basil and peanuts

These are a selection of the dishes we shared… the fish curry was absolutely so delicious.

I couldn’t eat the mussels but wish I was allowed to eat them because they looked so good… My boyfriend was able to polish off the entire dish all to himself.

Lychee and Ginger Panna Cotta + Pineapple Downunder cake with cherry and coconut

We love how fresh all the food is at Australasia, it all tastes so clean and healthy…. Even the deserts!!!!

Asian High Tea at Grand Pacific – Australasia

We were invited along to Australasia’s Grand Pacific restaurant for Asian High Tea this week. After previously visiting Australasia we knew we were not going to be disappointed.

Their beautiful terrace is the perfect place to go to catch up with your friends or celebrate a special occasion. Even if it’s raining in Manchester you feel like you could be somewhere beautiful, with their palm trees and heated lamps.

Screen Shot 2016-08-16 at 15.53.09.png

Once we were seated at our table the ‘Asian High Tea’ experience was explained to us by one of their staff, she explained to us that the High Tea comes in 2 waves… Wave 1 includes a three tier sushi and salad selection, served with a complementing glass of The Spee’ Wah Australian ‘champagne’ or you can choose a mocktail from their menu…. Followed by wave 2 which includes three tiers of sweet indulgence, served with your choice of loose leaf or flowering tea (or you can have another glass of Champagne or mocktail.

Screen Shot 2016-08-16 at 15.53.52Screen Shot 2016-08-16 at 15.53.31

Wave 1 included a mixture of fish sushi, vegetable sushi and salads. We were also asked if we had any dietary requirements so if you don’t like meat or have any allergies then this wave can be altered just for you!

Wave 2 included so many delicious mini deserts. My favourite was the chocolate torte, followed by the creme brûlée and then the carrot cake. There is definitely a desert for everyone.

We enjoyed Champaign and a delicious Mango and Coconut mocktail drink with each wave.

At only £25 pp this experience is worth every penny. From it’s beautiful restaurant to beautiful food, I will be recommending this ‘Asian High Tea’ to everyone!

Rosso Manchester – NEW A La Carte Menu

The Rosso team invited us along to try out the NEW A La Carte Menu in the gorgeous Manchester restaurant. We had visited the restaurant previous and our experience was fantastic so we were very excited to be going again.

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 17.15.23.png

As we entered the restaurant we were greeted by cocktails at the bar and then when we were ready we went over to the table. Sasha was our host for the evening and he started by giving us the best seat in the house, we had a gorgeous booth for the 2 of us so it was very intimate and we were able to have good conversation in the loud/ bustling restaurant. We would definitely recommend asking for a booth when you book..

The atmosphere was perfect. Their DJ was playing music and everyone was having a good time. Looking around the restaurant is suited to all, from couples to families to groups of friends having food before they go out for the evening. We couldn’t wait to try their food.

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 17.29.56

For our starter we had a large garlic bread, calamari and their Carne Salad which Sasha said we had to try and it was amazing, it was a beef salad with rocket and parmesan. It was delicious. Then for our main we had ‘Skin on chicken fillet, grilled portobello mushroom and hand cut chips’ and the fillet steak. These were both so tasty. We wanted to go for something that we don’t normally have and these were perfect.

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 17.15.51.png

Then for desert we were both so full so just wanted something light, so we ordered a sorbet desert which was a mixture of champagne flavour, raspberry flavour and mango flavour. This were so delicious, we were then greeted by their special caramel cheese cake which we somehow demolished the entire desert! It was AMAZING. I think I could just go back to have that cheesecake again.

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 17.15.37.png
This photo does not do the deserts justice. You have to go and try them!

Make sure if you are planning on visiting Rosso you must BOOK online as they are so busy every night and you do not want to be disappointment.

Australasia Manchester

We were invited along to the well renown Australasia restaurant in Manchester city centre this week, thanks to our amazing friend Rebecca Walker who works for Living Ventures. We were very excited to be eating in the restaurant as we had heard so many amazing things about their food and not only it being delicious but also healthy!! We had previously visited their bar for cocktails and knew that this place was up there with the very best.

On arrival to the restaurant the stunning glass entrance makes you feel like you are entering an exclusive underground party. Once seated in our booth we were welcomed by friendly staff who explained how the menu worked and what was really tasty.

Screen Shot 2016-06-26 at 11.57.32.png

The menu is split up into 3 sections. You can either pick lots of small dishes to share for a tapas feel or pick a small dish for your starter and then pick a large dish for your main or you can ‘dive in’ and have a tapas dish, main meal and a desert. So you can eat as much or as little as your like!

Of course we had to try all 3 so we could get a real feel of the menu… and we were not disappointed.

For starters we had:

-Satay chicken skewers
-Squid and sriracha mayonnaise
-Hand-dived scallops with pork and apple

These small dishes were packed full with flavour and the freshest fish we have ever had in Manchester.

Screen Shot 2016-06-26 at 11.57.18

For our main meal we had:

-Chilean seabass with prawns in coconut
and Tom Yam broth – with sticky rice

and

-Fillet Steak with fries

Even though these were the larger dishes on the menu, they were still quite small so that you still have room for a desert. Most of the dishes on the menu definitely give off lots of asian flavours so when we came to picking a desert and seeing names like ‘Pineapple Downunder Cake’ and ‘Pineapple Sorbet’ We could see that the deserts were going to be arriving with an Australian twist.

So to finish off we had the Passion Fruit cheesecake and the Pineapple downunder with cherry and coconut.

Screen Shot 2016-06-26 at 11.57.04.png

Everything we ate was so light and full of flavour, so even though we did eat 3 courses we were not feeling too full. This restaurant is perfect for any occasion and if you have a look on their website Australasia they also have an amazing lunch time menu with special offers.

We will definitely be returning soon for some more delicious food.
